“The ideas that Jambori conjures enthuse and engage pupil participation. Children learn language, number, directional and movement skills in an interactive mode. It clearly ticks all the boxes as a pedagogically appropriate resource...I wish I’d thought of that!”

Whole Curriculum Approach

Jambori is a resource to be used across the seven areas of learning, with Welsh Language Development being one of the key provisions. Through rhyme and repetition and the opportunity to visualise and participate in the actual lyrics of the song, children’s understanding of Welsh is greatly enhanced and their language development is aided invaluably. The songs and rhymes used are familiar and will support Welsh Language Development amongst staff and pupils alike. The ideas generated within the session will evoke a range of original ways to introduce well-known tunes, incorporating them into children’s learning.

When the music stops.... hold the ball behind your backWhen the music stops.... hold two balls in the airYou can almost hear these boys on the left discussing their ticketsYou can't beat a thumbs up!!

Activities can

  • be reviewed and repeated to strengthen children’s understanding
  • be used as a stimulus for language, maths, themes etc.
  • evoke a response through drawing, painting, music etc.

These are the views of the Foundation Phase teachers in Ysgol Cae’r Felin, Pencader

“Sarah recently held a Jambori session at our school with the Foundation Phase pupils. It was a great opportunity for all staff to participate in the various activities and to observe the thinking, number and communication skills which were very evident throughout the session. Sarah enthusiastically encouraged all children to join in and learn through play and enjoyment. Her good management skills enabled her to hold pupils' attention and develop personal and social skills such as taking turns, sharing and collaboration. Her resources were appealing and appropriate to the age group. We would definitely encourage schools to consider Jambori as a resource or training to boost skills in the Foundation Phase.”

Here are some pupils' comments following the session:

"I liked the numbers song and holding the cards up"
"It was fun to look for the colourful balls and I felt good after moving”

Nurseries & Groups

Jambori sessions are very popular in settings such as Day Nurseries, Family Centres and Mother & Toddler groups. Either as a regular booking every fortnight or so, or for a special one-off occasion, children in these settings react very well to Jambori as they enjoy seeing a new face with different ideas and resources. For regular nursery bookings sessions can be tailored to suit your current theme.

EVEN BETTER….although your group may not have the funds to pay for this, if you run a non-profit group, you can apply for an “Awards 4 All” grant. This is a grant for groups like you, funded by The Big Lottery. All you need to do is fill in an application form explaining why you want Jambori, and how it would benefit your group and your community. You can apply for a grant to cover the whole cost!  Contact us for guidance on applying for the grant.

Jambori has been holding sessions at Cae’r Ffair Nursery, Gorslas twice a month since 2005. Sharon James, Proprietor says

“Jambori has been coming to Cae’r Ffair 7 years. During this period Sarah has provided lots of learning opportunities for our children, she’s helped to develop their confidence and has given them lots of fun through rhymes and dancing, and also covers the foundation phase areas of learning... Our children benefit very much from this  ‘special session' which is very important to us because we want the best for our children. Thank you very much. We enjoy you being here and the children always look forward to your visit.”

Would you love to run your own Jambori sessions?

Have you got what it takes to be Jambori team member?
