Foundation Phase
Since the arrival of the Foundation Phase curriculum, Jambori sessions have been developed to encompass as much of its philosophy as possible. The sessions aim to provide children with a wide range of learning opportunities. Every effort is made to cover each of the seven areas of learning with Welsh Language Development being one of the key provisions. Through rhyme and repetition and the opportunity to visualise and take part in the actual lyrics of the song, children’s understanding of Welsh is greatly enhanced and their language development is aided invaluably.
Each Jambori session is planned to provide a variety of experiential learning opportunities, from playing musical instruments to discussing the size and position of the teddies on the wall, and choosing the correct hat for Jac y Do.
By booking a Jambori session for your foundation phase class(es), not only will you provide the children with a unique learning experience but also give your staff an example of some tried and tested activities to use with children at this age.
The songs and rhymes are familiar and will support Welsh Language development amongst staff and pupils alike. The ideas generated within the session will evoke a range of original ways to incorporate well-known and original songs, into children’s learning.
Jambori has held workshops in various early years conferences and also holds regular sessions for B.Ed. and Education Studies students at University of Wales Trinity St David.
Carys Richards, Senior Lecturer Initial Teacher Training, University of Wales Trinity St David states:
“Jambori has been an annual feature within the programme since 2009. The trainees are given the opportunity to engage in a session and subsequently use their new found knowledge and understanding within schools and settings.
The CD and ideas that Jambori conjure; enthuse and engage pupil participation. Children learn language, number, directional and movement skills in an interactive mode.It clearly ticks all the boxes as a pedagogically appropriate resource. I wish I’d thought of that!”
Each Jambori session lasts for 45 minutes and is suitable for up to 20 children*. Sessions are available in Welsh, English or bilingually.
