What is Jambori?

Jambori was established in 2005 to provide Music and Movement sessions for pre-school children for children and their parents/carers.  Through Nursery Rhymes, Action Songs, musical instruments, props and games children develop their speaking and listening skills, coordination, creativity and social skills.  Jambori now entertains over 70 children each week in various sessions.  Session content has been adapted to complement the foundation phase curriculum used to teach children aged 3-7 throughout Wales.

Children enjoy routine and repetition, so each Jambori session follows a similar pattern.  Children get the opportunity to sing Hello, warm up, watch and listen, choose and play an instrument, move around, play a game.  Through using the same structure each week, children gain confidence and learn important social skills, such as waiting, sharing and listening.

Children’s faces light up as they see the five little speckled frogs jump off the log, meet Incy Wincy and his BIG brother and look for the five little monkeys who want to jump on the bed.

The public sessions are bilingual, Welsh and English are used throughout the session and emphasis is placed on numbers, colours etc.  Children and parents are able to learn through enjoyment.  Jambori are aware that adult’s enjoyment is important also and we always try to use modern, catchy songs to appeal to the whole audience. Popular Songs, such as Incy Wincy and Wheels on the Bus have been recorded especially for Jambori.  This aids Welsh learning for both adults and children.

Children have the opportunity to choose musical instruments to accompany a piece of classical music, in order to learn the concepts of loud and quiet and to promote self-control.

Self expression is encouraged through the use of ribbons, scarves, balloons etc and motor skills are also developed through the use of hoops, and large and small balls.
